The exercise this week really just got me thinking about those I have lost recently as well as those I have lost a very long time ago. I couldn't really focus when it started going into the light emanating from body areas but over all the exercise was good for my mood. It made me remember all of the good things that I had gone through with those loved ones and just put me in a better mood which I really did need. When it comes to my spiritual wellness I guess the mediation has somewhat helped with organizing my thoughts and actually has come in handy when I've been stressed and in pain. Anything that boosts my mood I find tends to help keep me more positive and focused as well as more energized as well.
Honestly the whole quote thing got to me a little because I personally believe you can help someone with something even if you haven't personally been through what they have. You don't have to know what they feel but you do have to understand that for them whatever they are dealing with isn't easy and just have to make sure you have patience and can at least try and put yourself in their shoes. You can at least sympathize with them that what they are dealing with is hard and at times can be painful and seem hopeless. I'm sure nearly everyone has felt hopeless with their situation at times and even if they situations aren't the exact same you can still sympathize with the feeling involved.
I agree with you that you don't always need to have experienced the same events and things in your life in order to help others going through difficult times. Sometimes just allowing people to talk and provide them a shoulder to lean on and an ear to listen can be all the help they need. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI also agree that one does not always have to have experienced the same events in order to help others. But, with health and wellness professionals I think they should practice what they preach as a means of knowing how to help the individual. I do not feel as though they should have to have experienced the same situation (such as an abusive father) to help the individual but I do believe they should practice or have practiced what they suggest. Just as a substance abuse counselor does not have to have abused substances in the past to encourage their clients to sobriety but they would need to be sober in order to do so. I have found the mediation exercises to be mostly beneficial. Just this week I had a breakthrough while practicing meditation that I am not sure I could have come to with a wild mind, so to speak. Usually I have a ton of thoughts on my mind and to calm my mind is a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteI believe the meditation has begun to help me like it has helped you as far as organizing thoughts. I have a lot of stress going on in my life and I do believe that doing these exercises help me find some peace and find a calm in the middle of chaos. As for what you said about the quote I can agree to some extent. I believe you can teach people even if you have not completed the tasks, but at the same time I do not think it has the same effect. It may to some extent, but I think if a professional has taken the time to do the exercises and tried changing their lives it may help the client to be more willing to listen and do what the professional says. I believe having the experience under your belt just enhances your perspectives on the different exercises.
ReplyDeleteI too was brought back to those from my life that are no longer here with me. The main person, my ROCK in life, was my grandfather. Was nice to have him flooding back into my mind. I agree that we can help others without having been at the place another may be, but truly understanding and being able to relate maybe not so much. Being there for another is what most need the most. Thanks for sharing.
